Superintendent Tim Crider

It is an honor to serve the North Bend School District as superintendent. Our schools are grounded in a shared commitment to students, strong relationships, and a belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel a deep sense of belonging.

Our strategic plan, built in partnership with staff, students, families, and community members, continues to guide our work. It reflects our priorities, strengthening academic outcomes, supporting student well-being, and ensuring our schools remain safe, welcoming places where students are known and supported.

I bring a deep understanding of district operations and a strong commitment to transparency, responsible stewardship of resources, and open communication. Our community deserves clear information and confidence that decisions are made thoughtfully and in the best interest of students.

North Bend is a special place, and our schools are a reflection of that. The dedication of our educators, the partnership of our families, and the support of our community make it possible to provide meaningful opportunities for students every day.

I look forward to continuing to work alongside the Board of Directors, our staff, and our community to build on the strong foundation already in place and to keep our focus where it belongs, on students and their success, now and into the future.

February 5, 2026 Superintendent Report

February 15, 2026 National SRO Appreciation Day

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the School Resource Officers who serve the North Bend School District and support our students, staff, and families each day.

Officer Jerad Jaehnig serves North Bend High School and North Bay Elementary. He is a trusted presence in our schools and has been recognized for his work as the 2023 Officer of the Year. He also holds a national certification from the National Association of School Resource Officers, showing his strong commitment to school safety and student support.

Officer Trevor Sanne serves North Bend Middle School and Hillcrest Elementary. He brings care and professionalism to his role and was recently honored with a Life Saving Award at the department’s 2025 awards ceremony, recognizing his quick action and dedication to protecting others.

We are grateful for the time, care, and commitment Officers Jaehnig and Sanne give to our school community. On National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, February 15, 2026, and throughout the year, we thank them for all they do to help keep our schools safe and welcoming.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Awareness Month

February is Career and Technical Education Awareness Month, a time to recognize the important role CTE plays in preparing students for success after graduation. Through hands-on, applied learning, CTE connects classroom instruction to real-world skills, careers, and postsecondary opportunities.

In our district, students can explore a wide range of career pathways, including construction trades, metals, healthcare, business, graphic design, and culinary arts. These programs provide practical, career-relevant experiences that help students develop technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional habits that are valued by employers, apprenticeships, and colleges alike. CTE also supports student engagement by helping learners see clear connections between their education and future goals, and to stay in school.

We are grateful for the dedication of our CTE teachers, counselors, and community partners who support these pathways, and we appreciate the board’s continued commitment to expanding high-quality career and technical opportunities for all students.

High School Graduation Rates

When we talk about Oregon education, we often hear that our test scores rank among the lowest in the country. That narrative is real, and it deserves our attention, but it is not the whole story.  Test scores provide one snapshot of learning at a moment in time.

Tonight I want to also highlight our high school graduation rates. These reflect a high level of persistence, relationship-building, and support systems that help students stay connected to school and cross the finish line. Graduation represents years of consistent effort by students, families, and staff, and tells us that students are leaving us better prepared for their future.

Graduation rates reflect sustained engagement over the students’ 13 years in school, the effectiveness of interventions, and the strength of the adult support network around each student.  They highlight our staff’s commitment to our students and our community.

Our high school graduation rates were just released.

When our school district is reported out as a whole, the overall 4-year graduation rate is 70%; this includes Evergreen Virtual Academy.  As a virtual school, many of their students have not been successful in a traditional school setting, and most come already lacking sufficient credits to graduate.  Those are unique challenges virtual schools are constantly working to overcome, and Evergreen is working hard to do so.  Those scores, however, do not reflect North Bend High School.

When we look at just our high school, our 4-year compilation rate is at 84.9% (state average is 83%), and our 5-year graduation rate is 90.4%, compared to the state average of 84.1%.

Our CTE participants achieved a whopping 89.9% 4-year graduation rate, and 94.3% for our 5-year graduation rates.

Bats in the Attic

Batts in the attack in one of our buildings caused a bit of a fluff, but the County Sanitarian advised against fumigation.  They did, after all, keep down the mice.  (School Board Meeting, 8/13/79)

Grace Dearborn - Behavior Intervention PD

On January 16, the North Bend School District hosted a district-wide professional development session led by Grace Dearborn.  Grace Dearborn is an award-winning teacher with experience in elementary, middle, and high school, an instructional coach, author, and international presenter who serves as Executive Director of Conscious Teaching, a professional learning organization focused on practical strategies for classroom management, student engagement, and trauma-informed instruction. Her work emphasizes research-based, classroom-ready techniques that support positive learning environments, increase student motivation, and help educators effectively meet the needs of diverse learners.

We invited Grace to join us on January 16th, and she conducted two sessions for us.  Early in the day, she led a training season for our Social-Emotional Learning teams and staff, and in the afternoon she led a session for K-12th grade teachers providing a smorgasbord of strategies they can use to help ease transitions and set expectations in their classrooms.

North Bay Gym Seismic Upgrade Kickoff

We will be holding our seismic upgrade kickoff meeting with HGE Architects on February 24th, and are very excited to get this project underway.  This project is made possible by the $2.5 million grant we applied for and were awarded through the The Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP), which is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, particularly public schools and emergency services facilities.  This is a good example of the time it takes to plan major capital improvements for the district.  The preliminary work on this grant occurred in 2025, we will plan through 2026, and the final construction will take place the summer of 2027, and will be a major facility upgrade for North Bay, adding to the safety of North Bay Elementary in the occurrence of a major earthquake or weather event.
