Jason Moore

NOV 10, 2021

On Thursday, October 21, 2021 the North Bend School Board held a work session to discuss the district’s ongoing commitment to local board control, specifically around ongoing mandates from the Oregon Governor’s office. At that meeting, the board agreed to develop a mutually agreed upon statement.  The statement, as presented below, was unanimously approved by the North Bend School Board Members at the School Board Meeting on November 4, 2021 and the Board Secretary was directed to send the statement to the Oregon Governor's Office on behalf of the board.

Statement from the North Bend School Board of Directors – Local Control

October 27, 2021

The North Bend School Board of Directors supports the Coos County Commissioners and the Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni in their requests for local control regarding public health and safety decisions.

On August 1st, 2021 the Coos County Commissioners wrote a letter to Governor Brown expressing concerns about the mask mandate for K-12 schools for the 2021-2022 school year and requesting that these decisions be made at the local level.

On August 27th, 2021 Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni issued a letter that included the following statement; “As your Sheriff, I believe it is in the best interest of Coos County and the State of Oregon that these types of public health/safety decisions are made by the local governments or by the individual themselves.”

As elected leaders of the North Bend School District, we seek the welfare of the children entrusted to the district, and formally request a return of local control and decision-making regarding health and safety protocols to serve our community’s specific needs.
